Hayao Miyazaki's animated fantasy continues to lead Chinese box office

BEIJING, April 9 (Xinhua) -- "The Boy and the Heron," an animated fantasy film directed by Japanese animation guru Hayao Miyazaki, continued to top the daily box office chart of the Chinese mainland on Monday, data from the China Movie Data Information Network showed.

The animated film, an Oscar 2024 winner, raked in more than 17.27 million yuan (about 2.43 million U.S. dollars) on Monday, leading the Chinese box office for the sixth day since its screening.

"Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire," the latest installment in the MonsterVerse film franchise, came in second with a daily box office revenue of 12.18 million yuan.

It was followed by the domestic crime thriller "Dwelling by the West Lake" with a daily box office revenue of 4.22 million yuan.

The Chinese mainland's box office revenue on Monday totaled 45.29 million yuan. ■
